| Understanding Vascular Disease |
| Will you know if you have an aneurysm? Will you know if you are developing "hardening of the arteries" in your vascular system? Probably not. until it's too late. Like all occurrences of vascular disease, including stroke and heart disease, aneurysms and plaque grow silently and often take many years to develop. This means that spontaneous rupture may occur suddenly and without warning. About 30% of aneurysms eventually rupture, leading to approximately 9,000 deaths in the United States each year. In addition, peripheral vascular disease can lead to stroke, kidney disease and painful walking. |
| Because an aneurysm can appear anywhere along the aorta (the artery that carries blood from your heart to the rest of the body), examination of the entire aorta is necessary to look for plaque and vascular abnormalities. Approximately 200,000 new cases of aneurysms are reported in our country each year. Individuals with peripheral vascular disease are also at increased risk of stroke and heart attack. |
| Aortic aneurysms are not clearly caused by hardening of the arteries, although it is not uncommon to find both conditions in the same person, usually related to age. Aneurysms can occur in some young patients as well. The occurrence of an aneurysm at any age may represent some genetic tendency toward the disease. So it's never too soon to look for a potential problem. |
| Identifying the Problem |
Now, there is a way to detect an aneurysm before it becomes life threatening. PrevaHealth offers the EBT e-Speed scanner to extend HeartScan imaging to include the entire aorta, as well as other major vessels. This is called Complete Vascular Scanning, or the Full VascularScan. This scan performs important imaging that is unavailable with routine X-rays. |
| Taking the Right Steps |
| An integrated Full VascularScan report can be prepared detailing both the heart and vascular findings. This provides in-depth examples of key images, along with a detailed, individualized HealthPATH, integrating important clinical information, preventive goals and suggestions for further follow-up. The Full VascularScan, coupled with your own clinical information, such as blood pressure and cholesterol status, provides a comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment. |
