For healthy adults who are at "average" risk for a heart attack, the EBT HeartScan is one of the most important tests they can take. It is a fast and painless way to determine your risk of heart disease, the number one killer of all adults. Only EBT can provide the fast imaging speed necessary to 'freeze' the motion of a beating heart to safely and accurately detect heart disease in its earliest stages.
Ask your doctor if a Heart Scan would help determine your risk for heart disease and give you one less thing to wonder about.

More about the Heart Scan:
Our Medical Director, Dr. John Rumberger is one of the pioneers of EBT heart scanning. The EBT Heart Scan is the state-of-the-art technology for the early detection of heart disease. The Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) heart scan is the most accurate test for identifying coronary calcification, a marker for heart disease. Using the EBT heartscan, doctors here in central Ohio can now diagnose and treat heart disease with an unprecedented degree of certainty and speed-years before a blockage can develop.

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. Someone in the United States suffers a heart attack or coronary event nearly every 29 seconds. Among women, heart disease is the number one cause of death, more than all forms of cancer combined. About half of the people who have heart attacks each year have no warning symptoms- the first, last and only symptom of coronary artery disease is a fatal heart attack. Ohio is among the nations leaders in many of these sad statistics.

The build-up of plaque (fatty deposits) which decreases the blood flow to supply the heart muscle is the cause of a heart attack. This plaque forms calcium deposits years before the first symptoms of heart disease appear. This buildup is often undetectable by stress testing and may occur independent of traditional risk factors. The majority of those who die suddenly would not have had positive cholesterol or stress tests to alert them of the presence of the disease.

Now, with the EBT heartscan, precise" freeze-frame" images can be taken of the beating heart without blurring and without the need for medications. The EBT heart scan clearly detects and measures calcium in the coronary arteries. An EBT Heart scan is, accurate, painless, inexpensive and takes about 10 minutes to complete. There are no special preparations necessary. You remain fully clothed. There are no needles. The actual heart scan is performed in a matter of seconds as the electron beam scanner takes forty pictures of your heart, between beats. These heartscan images show the early calcium/plaque buildup, which appear as white specs on the walls of your arteries.

At PrevaHealth, we use General Electric-Imatron's Electron Beam scanner which is the only CT scanner specifically approved for calculating coronary plaque. Only a Heart Scan done with the EBT scanner is 98% accurate in ruling out coronary artery disease to provide most of our patients with incredible peace of mind.

Men over 35 and women over 40 with any one of the following risk factors are candidates for heart scanning. (Younger individuals with any combination of these risk factors may also benefit from a heartscan):

  • Family History of Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cholesterol
  • History of Tobacco Exposure
  • Diabetes
  • Overweight or Obese
  • Significant emotional stress
  • The simple fact is, only an EBT heart scan at PrevaHealth can accurately find the early stages of heart disease- while it is most treatable.

    Note:
    • All imaging services require prescription by a doctor.
    • Each patient will receive an individualized report provided also directly to their doctor. This report includes a specific clinical assessment and risk analysis, including personalized recommendations for follow-up care or additional testing when necessary.
