Nearly 90% of the diseases that cause early death and disability are preventable if detected early. Cardiovascular disease and cancer are the two most common causes of death in the United States, accounting for almost 3 out of every 4 deaths Full body scans are regarded as the most effective means for screening for these potential problems. Many doctors support responsible preventive screening and encourage their patients to participate in a full body scan.
The EBT Full Vascular or body scan is accurate, painless and takes about 15 minutes to complete. The full body scan encompasses the region from the jaw (carotid arteries) to the hips. There is no special preparation, no needles or drugs and you remain fully clothed. The body scan is performed in a matter of minutes and includes a Heart Scan and Lung Scan. The body scan can identify the presence of disease in the coronary and carotid arteries, thoracic and abdominal aortas, cancers in the lungs and as well as abnormalities in the abdomen, and spine.
But what most people call a Body Scan is a misnomer. At PrevaHealth a body scan is called by its clinically more accurate name, the Full Vascular Scan. Whether you call it a Full Vascular Scan or Body Scan, the purpose of this valuable test is to identify abnormalities and diseases at an early stage when they are most treatable. Studies have consistently shown that early detection of disease substantially improves clinical outcomes.
The Body Scan is better described as a Full Vascular scan because it provides our Medical Director, Dr. John Rumberger a tool to assess the most significant components of the cardiovascular system for the earliest stages of disease including risk of heart attack, stroke and aneurism. Our specially trained radiologist also examines the lungs and the remainder of the body cavity for other abnormalities. Each patient meets with Dr. Rumberger to review the results of their scan and discuss a personalized healthplan to guide their follow up care.
At PrevaHealth, our EBT Body Scan also includes the unique Visceral Fat Analysis. Internal fat is stored around the abdominal organs (viscera). Although a person may appear to be lean, a direct measure of visceral body fat can tell much about their risk for heart and vascular disease. Abnormally high relative visceral fat signals an additional cluster of risk factors known as "Metabolic Syndrome". It is very common- about 47 million US residents have some or all of the features of the Metabolic Syndrome. It is more common as we age. About 7% of the US population would qualify at age 20-29, but about 43% would qualify at age 60-69. The information provided by the Visceral Fat analysis allows your doctor to help you devise a diet that is calculated to maintain your best health.
The EBT full Body Scan provides a Full Vascular Assessment with the most accurate, high resolution, state-of-the-art equipment for evaluating your vascular condition as well as to identify certain cancers and other clinical abnormalities and even guide your dietary plans.
NOTE: An issue that has recently been in the news is the concern over high levels of radiation from medical testing. This issue underscores an additional value of Body scanning performed on our Unique EBT e-speed scanner. Using the CT scanners found in all local hospitals, the entire radiation dose for a complete chest and abdomen body scan would be on the order of 3000 mRem [a mammogram is about 50 mRem]. At PrevaHealth we use the patented state of the art EBT e-SpeedTM technology to provide high resolution imaging at nearly than one tenth of that dose [about 330 mRem]. Thus, a PrevaHealth Body Scan uses no more radiation than one would be exposed to, annually, from natural causes.
